Models: Common March Pump models used in the Marine Industry are the LC-2CP-MD, LC-3CP-MD, LC5C-MD, AC-3CP-MD, and AC-5C-MD.
Maintenance
- The pump should periodically be taken apart for examination.
- Unscrew screws from the front housing; ensure the impeller spins freely on the shaft
- Remove any debris and obstructions from inside the pump.
- Use a cleaning agent to clean the cooling tubes in the LC models.
- Do not spray water on AC models.
- Follow motor oiling instructions on motor nameplate for AC models.
- Use proper winterization techniques for all pumps.
Troubleshooting
No Flow:
Check that the motor is running. Check that pump is below the water line and there are no obstructions. Check to see if the impeller has melted by removing the front housing.
Less Flow Then Expected:
Inspect that none of the strainers or pipes are clogged. Check to make sure there are no solids in the pump. Remove any obstructions and solids.
Motor is Hot:
Inspect that pump is connected to power correctly. For AC pumps, check that water has not entered the motor. For the LC pumps, clean the cooling tubes with a cleaning agent or compressed air for blockage. If using compressed air, do not obstruct the open cooling tube with any part of your body, departing obstructions may be hot.
Leaking:
If the pump is leaking between the housings, unscrew the front housing and ensure the O-Ring is sitting properly in the O-Ring groove. If leaking toward the motor end, remove the front housing and inspect for a hole in the rear housing. If there is a hole, a new rear housing or possibly a new wet end will have to be purchased.
Noisy:
If abnormal noise is coming from the motor, contact your distributor. If the motor noise is coming from the wet end, disassemble the pump and determine if there is a solid in the pump. If there is a solid, remove it.
Wet End Melted:
If the wet end (front and rear housings, impeller) are melted, the pump was run dry. DO NOT RUN THE PUMP DRY. New parts, or possibly a new wet end, will have to be purchased.
Is the warranty void if I disassemble the pump?
The warranty is not void if you disassemble the pump.
Can I run 115V on a 230V pump?
No, an 115V motor is needed to run on 115V power.
Can the pump handle sea or salt water?
These pumps are capable of pumping fresh water, sea water, and salt water.
Why are there holes in the rear housing on the LC pump?
The holes should have freeze plugs in them, and all LC pumps leave March with these freeze plugs installed. If they are missing, it is because the pump was not winterized properly or they were blown out from compressed air. Individual freeze plugs or new rear housing should be purchased.
Can the pump be mounted anyway other than horizontal?
The pump can be mounted horizontally or vertically. If vertically, have the motor end below the pump end to prevent air lock. For the AC pumps, the outlet can be rotated in any direction except pointing downward
