Centrifugal pumps’ simplicity in design and versatility in application make them one of the most common pumps in the world. They are capable of handling enormous volumes of fluid and a variety of head. With few moving parts, centrifugal pumps are not only easy to operate but also have longer operation times and low maintenance. Their applications range from industrial, commercial, and residential activities to scientific and municipal operations. Centrifugal pump advantages are numerous. This article covers the top reasons that make March Pumps’ centrifugal pumps stand out over other conventional centrifugal pumps and reciprocating pumps. So let’s see why you should choose centrifugal pumps. Read More about 9 Reasons People Trust Centrifugal Pumps (and You Should Too!) »

Severe Duty Motors: Everything You Need to Know
Falling between standard TEFC motors and IEEE 841 motors, severe duty motors are specially designed to handle challenging environments. They are used in industrial applications that require protection from humidity, corrosion, heat, and other mechanical stress. No matter the conditions, severe duty motors are well-equipped to power pumps, compressors, fans, and other equipment. Read More about Severe Duty Motors: Everything You Need to Know »
March Pump’s New Plastic Machine
March Pump has acquired a new plastic injection molding machine for its facility. It is a Sumitomo SHI Demag E220EV-AHD. It is a 220-ton machine capable of holding a 6000 lb. mold. It has a max temperature of 751 °F. It is air cooled and fully electric, a first for March. Our head foreman of molding, Sam Nutter, who has been with March for over 40 years is excited about this new machine for it allows him to mold plastic parts with greater precision than ever before. The purchase of this machine allows March to continue to manufacture its own plastic parts in our facility, in the time frame and quantities we want. What Is a Washdown Motor? The Must-Know Facts
Building a successful pump system is often anything but easy. In addition to the many different kinds of pumps on the market today, an effective system also requires a correctly matched motor — and motors have just as many options as pumps. AC motors versus DC motors. Brushless versus brushed motors. Synchronous versus induction motors. Then there are air motors and stepper motors, gearmotors and servomotors, linear motors and hydraulic motors. One’s choices can seem endless. Read More about What Is a Washdown Motor? Rare-Earth Magnets: From Mining to Manufacturing
In recent years, rare-earth magnets have become anything but uncommon. Not only have they begun appearing in a wide variety of industrial and consumer products, many experts have begun hailing the devices as a potential solution for environmental ills. Business-news website Quartz notes, “One high-stakes arena that could shape the trajectory of the global climate economy is the rare earth permanent magnet industry.” Market Insight Reports also states that the sector is poised for explosive expansion “with a CAGR [compound annual growth rate] of 8.5% in the forecast period of 2020 to 2025.” Read More about Rare-Earth Magnets: From Mining to Manufacturing »
What is an Impeller’s Trim? How do I Trim if I Wanted to do it Myself?
“Energy efficiency” has become a byword for consumer-friendly environmental efforts. Fiona Burlig and Erica Myers of Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago explained to Forbes, “Energy efficiency programs promise to be a ‘win-win’: by reducing energy consumption, they lower households’ electricity bills and greenhouse gas emissions at the same time. That’s why when lawmakers are allocating spending with an eye to both the pocketbook and the climate, energy efficiency is always a go-to—filled with what appears to be low-hanging fruit.” But does the same hold true for businesses? The Role of Liquid Velocity in Centrifugal Pump Systems
If you look up the definition for the word “pump” in Merriam-Webster, you could be forgiven for thinking that pumps are simple machines. According to the venerable dictionary, it’s “a device that raises, transfers, delivers, or compresses fluids.” And while that definition is true, it fails to capture the complexity of the devices that have been used since at least 200 B.C. From allowable pipe stress and the Reynolds number to energy gradients and specific speed, pumps can get very complicated very quickly. One of the areas that often confuses end users is liquid velocity. Read More about The Role of Liquid Velocity in Centrifugal Pump Systems »

How Voltage & Phase Affects Amp Draw & HP Consumption
Motors aren’t everlasting implements, and no motor lives forever. According to Acorn Industrial Services Ltd., most electric motors have a life expectancy of anywhere from 30,000 to 40,000 operating hours. But that estimation depends on a number of factors. Is the motor properly secured and any vibrations minimized? Are workplaces kept clean in order to minimize contamination from dirt and grime? And is your motor supplied with high-quality energy?
